"Keepers" is set to benefit quite considerably this year from the activities of Penwortham Golf Club, near Preston. Former St Andrean, Hugh Paterson, (son of A.B.) has selected Keepers of the Green as one of his nominated charities during his tenure as Captain of the Lancashire Club. A number of fundraising events have been included in Hugh's programme for the year including the recent Captain's Charity Team Stableford Tournament where Keepers Member, Jack Munro and Friend, Ian Stewart, joined Hugh's team together with another former St Andrean, Matthew McGown.
The Captain's team could not take full advantage of the extremely wet and windy conditions (which caused the cancellation of a planned "Hickory Challenge") and finished just outside the top ten of some 40 entries. However, they were presented with the "Longest Drive" prize – after all it is a 500 mile round trip from St Andrews to Preston!
"Keepers" will also feature prominently in the main event of Penwortham GC's social calendar, the Captain's Charity Sportsman's Dinner where the guest speakers will include Patron, David Joy and Hon Member, Emil Pacholek, on Friday 22nd July.
